Blessing of the Animals

The annual Blessing of the Animals is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 1455 E. Yosemite Ave. in Merced. All animals are welcome, but must be leashed or in crates. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call (209) 383-0632.

‘Rimers of Eldritch’ play

Performances of “The Rimers of Eldritch” by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lanford Wilson are planned at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, as well as Oct. 10 and 11, at the Mariposa County Park Amphitheater, 5100 Bullion St. Another show is planned at 2 p.m. Oct. 12 Admission is $12 for general seating, or $10 for seniors and students. Candidates forum

The League of Women Voters of Merced County will hold a candidates forum tonight for Atwater mayor and City Council at the Atwater City Council chamber, 750 Bellevue Road. The mayoral candidates will be questioned from 6 to 7 p.m., and council candidates from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Candidates will answer questions submitted in advance electronically to LWVMercedCo@gmail.com or to Facebook ( www.facebook.com/lwvmercedco) and from those submitted in writing at the forums. All questions will be screened.

FFA Fall Plant Sale

ALS challenge at Elks Lodge

An ALS ice bucket challenge will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Merced Elks Lodge, 1910 M St. in Merced. Donations on behalf of Mike “Booger” Dragovich will benefit those who have ALS.
