Atwater police said they used a Taser on a “combative” woman after she struggled with officers early Monday.
Just before 7 a.m., Amber Breckenridge, 20, went to her mother’s home in the 1200 block of Fir Avenue in violation of a restraining order, Lt. Samuel Joseph said.
Breckenridge “was extremely agitated, pounding and kicking the front door of the residence,” Joseph said.
Officers said Breckenridge refused to follow police instructions and became physically and verbally aggressive. At one point, police said, Breckenridge appeared to be retrieving something from the waist area of her pants and ignored multiple commands to show her hands, Joseph said.

“Fearing for his safety, that Breckenridge may have a weapon, Officer (Jose) Torres deployed his Taser, striking Breckenridge in the upper torso area,” Joseph said. “Breckenridge was taken to the ground, where she refused to show her hands initially, but complied soon after and was arrested.”
She was booked at Merced County Jail on suspicion of misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and disobeying a court order. Breckenridge was still in custody Monday afternoon.
