The Merced Sheriff's Office said it arrested a 17-year-old for assaulting his mother, father and sister.
Just after 5 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff's office responded to the 2000 block of West Highway 140 for a fight in progress, according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie. When deputies arrived, they discovered that the 17-year-old-son had gotten into a fight with his 20-year-old sister because he wanted to use the computer while she was on it.
During the argument, the mother, 42, intervened, and that's when the son head-butted her and began punching and kicking her as she fell to the ground, according to deputies.
The sister attempted to pull her brother off the mother, and that’s when he started hitting her. During the fight, the father, 56, came in and pulled his son off of his daughter. He was able to wrestle him to the ground until he calmed down, but when he let him up, the son then turned on him, punching him and striking him in the head with a cutting board and the butt of a BB gun, MacKenzie reported.
The fight between father and son ended up outside where he was detained until deputies could arrive and the suspect was taken into custody. The family thinks the motive for the fight was that the son was upset over being disciplined for sneaking out of the house without permission recently, deputies suggested.
The 17-year-old was booked into Juvenile Hall for assault with a deadly weapon and battery. Family members received minor injuries that didn't need hospitalization.
