A quinceanera celebration turned ugly Saturday night in Hilmar after two people were stabbed, the Merced County Sheriff's Department reported.
The incident was reported around 9:30 p.m. at the Hilmar Grange Hall at 8188 Lander Ave. The victims, a 21-year-old man and a 14-year-old male, are expected to survive, according to Deputy Tom MacKenzie, sheriff's spokesman.
The stabbing happened after a fight broke out between several people in the back parking lot. The teen was stabbed four times in the abdomen and upper torso, while the man was stabbed once in the stomach, MacKenzie said.
Both were taken by ambulance to a hospital. The man claimed he was stabbed after trying to intervene in the fight.
MacKenzie said the details of the stabbing remain under investigation. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the stabbing to call (209) 385-7472. Calls are kept confidential and you can remain anonymous.
