Get into the swing of things with the Modesto Symphony Orchestra at its Benny Goodman tribute next week.
Performing under the direction of pops conductor Steven Reineke, the orchestra will join forces with the Dave Bennett Sextet for the show.
The concert will feature Goodman hits like "Sing Sing Sing," "Stompin' at the Savoy," "Blues in the Night" and "Strike Up the Band."
"I think people will have a lot of fun," Bennett said in a phone interview from his Michigan home. "People are pretty electrified after the show."
A jazz clarinetist and bandleader, Goodman was known as the "King of Swing" and led one of the most popular musical groups in America in the 1930s.
"When I was 10 years old and I started playing the clarinet, I was given a tape of Benny Goodman at the same time," Bennett said. "I couldn't believe the clarinet could sound like that.
"I immediately fell in love with the music and practiced it a lot."
The Dave Bennett Sextet has performed Goodman's music with orchestras throughout the United States and Canada.
