The Merced Union High School District school board will vote whether or not to send layoff notices to 25 teachers tonight because of budget cuts.
Teachers voiced their frustrations over budget reductions last Thursday as part of a nationwide protest against cuts to education funding.
"The district has enough money to maintain its program for more than one year," said Paul Chambers, California Teachers Association Merced and Mariposa representative. "They can bridge this recession."
Le Grand Union High School District and Dos Palos-Oro Loma Unified School District will also vote on layoffs tonight. To check their meeting times, visit the school districts' Web sites.
The Merced Union High School District meeting starts at 5:35 p.m. at the Golden Valley High School Theater at 2121 E. Childs Avenue in Merced. The public is welcome to attend.
