EMPIRE -- A 28-year-old man was fatally stabbed at a nightclub late Saturday, the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department reported.
Detectives have not released the man's name pending notification of his family and believe he lived in Stanislaus County, said deputy Andrew Winter, a department spokesman.
Detectives continued to look Sunday evening for two suspects, described as Latinos in their early to mid-20s, with very short hair. Winter said one suspect is of medium height with a medium build and a mustache; the other has a heavy build and is several inches taller.
They were last seen driving toward Waterford in a two- or four-door sedan, possibly gray in color.
The stabbing took place at Antonio's Bar and Grill at 5700 Yosemite Boulevard. A man who answered the phone Sunday evening said he had no information about the stabbing and that the bartender who worked Saturday was off.
Deputies were called to the business about 10:45 p.m. Saturday. The victim was taken to Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead early Sunday.
Winter said this was the fourth homicide this year in the Sheriff's Department's jurisdiction.
He said detectives continue to investigate, but it does not appear that the victim knew the suspects.
He said detectives still are determining what happened before the stabbing and whether anyone else was involved.
"It looks like just the three," Winter said, "but we still are investigating."
