A 32-year-old fugitive wanted on a felony aggravated assault with a firearm warrant was arrested by law enforcement at a 252 W. 19th St. apartment Wednesday night.
The bust happened around 9:30 p.m. and included Merced police, agents from the state's bureau of narcotics task force and Modesto police, said Lt. Matt Williams.
Because the fugitive, Marcos Amaya, was believed to be armed and dangerous, the Merced Police Department's SWAT team surrounded the residence. He was arrested shortly after midnight and turned over to Modesto Police Department detectives for questioning.
The incident was unrelated to a shooting reported in South Merced on Wednesday, Williams said.
