TURLOCK -- The Turlock Irrigation District will begin the 2010 irrigation season on March 18.
Due to the unsettled weather patterns often experienced at the beginning and end of the water year, the district authorized staff to adjust the season, as necessary, based on weather conditions and irrigation needs.
The irrigation season will tentatively end on Oct. 20. Although current precipitation trends in the Tuolumne River watershed appear promising, the district has deferred establishing the annual water allotment until the results of the March snow survey by the California Department of Water Resources is known.
The 2010 water allotment charge is $26 per acre. Growers may place water orders beginning at 7 a.m. on March 17, by calling (209) 883-8456.
