A mother-son spat turned ugly, then wet in Dos Palos, and the son wound up in jail after allegedly throwing a bucket of water on his mom.
Deputy Roberto Torres was dispatched to the 20000 block of South Elgin Avenue around 7 p.m. Monday, said deputy Tom MacKenzie.
When he arrived, he found that the son, Jonathan Survera, 26, had gotten into an argument earlier that day with his 52-year-old mother.
At issue was her calling some of her "guy friends" to beat up Survera the previous night. She explained that she didn't like the way he treated her or her mother, which is why she called her friends.
During the Monday night argument, the mother threatened to call the police and have the son arrested after she said he spit on her. Survera yanked the phone out of the wall and left the house, MacKenzie said.
He returned some four hours later. His mom began yelling at him again about ruining the phone cord. Survera went to a shed at the rear of the property, with the victim following.
When he got inside the shed, said MacKenzie, he grabbed a bucket filled with water and threw the water at his mother. She stormed back inside the house, connected the phone with a spare cord and called the Merced County Sheriff's Department.
Survera was arrested for battery and damage to the phone line. He was jailed in lieu of $7,000 bail.
MacKenzie added that there were no calls for service on an assault Sunday night in the Dos Palos area. It remains unclear whether the mother's friends did assault Survera or whether she'd just called people to try to have it done.
