A 45-year-old man was arrested Monday after Merced police reported a short pursuit on Highway 99.
The pursuit lasted about 3 minutes and started around 11:00 a.m. near Pine Street and Motel Drive.
Officer Leone Pintabona was patrolling the area when he spotted the suspect, Merced resident Robert Arroyo, involved in what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug deal, according to Lt. Tom Trindad.
Arroyo drove away and was followed by the officer, who also noticed a brake light on the suspect's car wasn't working. When the officer turned on his emergency lights, Arroyo sped away. During the pursuit, police say Arroyo reached speeds approaching 95 mph.

The pursuit entered northbound Highway 99 and Arroyo pulled over after driving for about a mile. He was arrested without further incident, Trindad said.
Trindad said no drugs were found in Arroyo's car, but police believe he may have dumped the drugs out of the window during the pursuit.
Arroyo was already wanted by law enforcement on a felony drug possession warrant. He was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of reckless driving and fleeing from a police officer.
