The committee set up by the Merced City Council to recommend resolutions to the issue of homeless camps in town voted Wednesday that any homeless camp set up by the city of Merced be a temporary camp, said Mike Conway, the city's spokesman.
The committee also voted to recommend that any camp that is set up should allow 290 sex offenders and be located within walking distance of transportation, social services and shopping.
The committee's next meeting will be March 3 and will discuss the kinds of facilities the camp should have and if it should be Americans with Disability Act compliant.
