I heartily concur with the letter writer who called for a competent, knowledgeable candidate to run against Stanislaus County Supervisor Dick Monteith.
When Monteith ran for that position in 2006, some local pundits said he was running because he needed to build up retirement income. What happened, and what we didn't expect, was that his retirement began the day he was sworn in.
We need someone in that seat with a proven history of leadership and performance. Monteith has not demonstrated either of those qualities.
