A penny saved is a penny earned.
Students in the Merced City School District practiced the old adage for two weeks, then collected those pennies to donate to victims of the Haiti earthquake.
Ten of the district's 15 schools participated, and their efforts resulted in raising $4,000 for the Red Cross.
Students donated the money to the Red Cross on Thursday.
