Last month downtown Modesto got a new place to get a steaming bowl of pho, and now it's north Modesto's turn.
Pho DK Vietnamese Cuisine opened a month ago in the Wal-Mart Supercenter complex on McHenry Avenue. The restaurant serves a menu of pho (Vietnamese soup), rice and noodle plates, and sandwiches.
Owner Kyle Nguyen's family had a similar restaurant in Los Angeles and then moved to Modesto three years ago.
Pho DK at 3848 McHenry Ave., Suite 115, continues that family tradition.

"We've been doing this for a long time," he said. "It's 100 percent traditional Vietnamese. Our soup is good quality and a reasonable price."
Pho bowls range from $5.50 to $6.95, depending on size. Food is available for dining in or takeout. The restaurant seats 49.
Nguyen said in the short time the restaurant has been open, it already has garnered repeat customers. And he said he's happy to teach newcomers about the world of pho.
"We show them how to eat it, put it together and mix them," he said. "I show them how to put the soy sauce, fish sauce in noodles, plum sauce, bean sprouts, basil, jalapeños, lime. Everything."
Pho DK is open for lunch and dinner from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. For more information, call 572-1727.
