Salida company gets Ag Hall of Fame spot

Flory Industries of Salida, a pioneer in mechanized harvesting of almonds and other crops, will join the Stanislaus County Ag Hall of Fame at a Nov. 11 dinner in Turlock. The company, located at a site where the Flory family started ranching in 1909, has built and repaired farm machinery since 1936. The 11th annual dinner is a fund-raiser for the planned Ag Science Center at Modesto Junior College. It will start at 6 p.m. at the Assyrian-American Civic Club, 2618 N. Golden State Blvd. Tickets are $125 each or $1,250 for a table of 10. More information is at 521-2902.

Allan Romander of Modesto, who has helped farmers grow their crops for more than 40 years, will receive the International Certified Crop Adviser of the Year Award from the American Society of Agronomy. Romander is a certified crop adviser and pest control adviser with Western Farm Service in Vernalis. He is chairman of the California Certified Crop Adviser Board. The society noted Romander's work with growers on reducing sediment loss during irrigation and increasing water efficiency with soil moisture sensing.
