I am a seventh-grade student at Roosevelt Junior High School and I am very concerned about the governor's proposed education funding cuts. Not only am I concerned about the effect the cuts will have on the classroom, I am worried about how it will affect the music programs.
I have been very lucky to have been involved with the chorus programs at Lakewood School with Kaye Osborn, Enslen School with Jeanne Moore, and now Roosevelt with Lance Underwood. All three teachers work very hard with their students and volunteer their extra time to provide not only a fun atmosphere for us, but also a very educational experience as well.
I recently participated in the Stanislaus County 55th Annual Junior High School Music Festival. It was such a great evening not only for the students involved, but for the parents and guests who attended. It would be sad to see programs such as these eliminated. Chorus has been such a rewarding experience, and I truly believe it has helped me academically as well. And to quote Mr. Underwood, "Music is an important part of a well-rounded education."
