Hughson man arrested in rape; suspect sought in assault in car

Stanislaus County sheriff's officials were investigating two rape cases, one involving a woman routinely raped and beaten for two years, the other involving a woman raped after she befriended a man who helped change her tire.

Sheriff's officials arrested Jarjeet Singh, 28, of Hughson, after the woman said he had held her against her will the past two years, Sgt. Brandon Kiely said.

Singh was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, criminal threats of violence, rape of spouse and false imprisonment. He was booked at Stanislaus County Jail and posted $50,000 bail Saturday.

The woman reported the alleged abuse to the Sheriff's Department on Friday.

She said Singh raped her, and threatened to kill her with his knife and feed her to his trained pit bull if she told anyone about the abuse, Kiely said. She also said he beat her weekly.

The other reported case occurred in a vehicle after a 42-year-old Waterford woman befriended an unidentified man, who still was on the loose Saturday.

Officials described him as Latino, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 210 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

The sexual assault occurred about 5:30 p.m. near Grayson Road and Highway 33, according to investigators.

The suspect helped the woman replace a flat tire, before they both got into his vehicle for a ride, Kiely said.

The suspect pulled over and forced the woman to have sex with him in the vehicle, Kiely said. He drove her back to her vehicle, which had been burglarized.
