Locals honored tonight at OAA

Stanislaus County's top athletes of 2006 will be recognized during the 40th Outstanding Athlete Awards Banquet tonight at the SOS Club.

Another large crowd is expected for the dinner and program, which features an appearance by first-year Stanford football coach Jim Harbaugh.

The finalists in the high school boys division are Louis Bland (Central Catholic football and wrestling), Pierre Bondoc (Beyer wrestling), Colin Kaepernick (Pitman baseball), Adrian Oliver (Modesto Christian basketball) and Sammy Yeager (Modesto basketball).

The high school girls finalists are Karlee Bispo (Downey swimming), Marissa Drewrey (Oakdale softball), Marina Martinez (Beyer golf), Alicia Reid (Oakdale basketball and softball) and Kelly Simpson (Beyer volleyball).

In the open division, the men's finalists are Chad Draper (Modesto Junior College football), Bryan Haile (MJC swimming) and Byron Storer (Cal football).

The women's finalists are Julie Locke (roller skating), Maria Sanchez (tennis) and Vanessa Stanfield (MJC soccer).

Handball champion Bill Heaston of Modesto will be inducted to the Hall of Fame, and Turlock's Frank Cusenza will receive the Darell Phillips Coaches Award.

Also announced tonight will be the Jay Pattee Award for sports public service.
