Sales of existing homes slowed to a trickle in the Northern San Joaquin Valley in January over the previous year and the prices being paid for the ones that did sell weren’t much better, according to the latest figures from MDA DataQuick.
Homes sales in San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Merced counties were down more than 30 percent, while Tuolumne figures were off by nearly 7 percent.
Although the median sales price was up 5.2 percent in San Joaquin County and holding steady at $115,000 in Merced, it sank to $131,750 in Stanislaus in January — the lowest level since the spring of 2000.
