After working their way through 85 cities last summer, the Avengers will assemble in Sacramento and San Jose next month, then in Fresno in April.
The arena show “Marvel Universe Live” features everyone’s favorite Marvel superheros, including Thor, Captain America, Wolverine and the Hulk in an all-out Hulk-smash battle royal against Red Skull, Madame Hydra, Loki, Electro and others.
It could tide over Marvel fans until “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” hits theaters May 1. The movie reunites Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Modesto native Jeremy Renner) against the villain Ultron (voiced by James Spader).
Marvel Studios says of the story: “When Tony Stark tries to jump-start a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to the Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for a global adventure.”
In the meantime, “Marvel Universe Live” is big-screen action in real time that features aerial stunts, pyrotechnics and movie-style special effects that utilize the entire arena floor, plus some aerial fighting. Seeing Captain America slug it out with Red Skull might be worth the price of admission alone.
The touring show will have seven performances March 12-15 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, seven performances March 20-22 at SAP Center in San Jose and six performances April 4-6 at Save Mart Center in Fresno. Ticket prices vary by venue. Tickets for the Sacramento and San Jose shows have been on sale; those for the Fresno shows are available beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday at the SMC box office, select Save Mart Supermarkets, by calling (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

As for Renner, the website screenrant.com reports there are rumors that he may show up sometime during the remainder of the season on the ABC series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Earlier this year, “S.H.I.E.L.D.” star Clark Gregg shared on Facebook an image of a comic panel from “Secret Avengers #10” depicting his character Agent Coulson – current director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – and archer Hawkeye (played by Renner in the movies), facing off against each other.
Then Renner posted on his WhoSay account that he was suiting up in his Hawkeye costume to shoot something he couldn’t talk about: “Tues morn. I find myself in costume again. I just can't tell you why. And it still fits! #marvel #avengers #hawkeye.”
