In brief: Ben Folds added to Gallo Center lineup

Singer-songwriter Ben Folds has been added to the new season for the Gallo Center for the Arts.

The former frontman of Ben Folds Five, known for hits such as “Brick” and “Army,” has gone on to have his own successful solo career. His Gallo Center show will be part of an acoustic tour that will feature Folds playing on a grand piano, singing and telling stories.

Lucca Concert Series

The Lucca Winery Summer Concert Series continues with a tribute to the music of Jimmy Buffett.

The new outdoor music series at the Lucca Winery in Ripon brings in the Buffett musical group Garratt Wilkin & the Parrotheads on Saturday, July 9. The show will also include opener and Spanish guitarist Jesse Hendricks and artwork by Deborah Barr. The shows presented by John Griswold & Friends include the live concerts, complimentary glass of wine in a souvenir glass and admission to an on-site art show.

Guests can choose between lawn and table seating and purchase a dinner package as well. Tickets are $35-$99. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the concert is at 8 p.m. For more information, call 209-543-4261 or visit www.red-tie.org.

Mistlin Gallery show

The Central California Art Association opens an exhibit by art students from Central Valley colleges.

The show features work from undergraduate students from from the University of California, Merced; California State University, Stanislaus; Modesto Junior College; and Merced College. Work will feature pieces in all mediums and sizes.

Stand Up for Charity Comedy Showcase

The next Stand Up for Charity Comedy Showcase will be a benefit for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Stanislaus County.

The regular comedy series will feature local comic and headliner Aliceon Beltrani and Mean Dave. Other local comics will also perform with A.J. DeMello hosting.

Show starts at 8 p.m. Friday, July 8, at the Queen Bean Coffee House. The performance is free, but donations will be accepted and given to CASA.
