The Beat: Boscoe's Brood

HOME BASE: Turlock/Modesto

PLAYERS: Duane Parsons, drums; Sam Regalado, keyboards

SOUNDS LIKE: Boscoe's Brood plays a mix of indie and progressive rock. Its influences include The Beatles, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Yes, King Crimson, Steely Dan, Talking Heads and Toto.

BACKSTORY: The duo came together in September with the goal of exploring new ideas and sounds. The pair's first show was at California State University, Stanislaus. Parsons and Regalado have backgrounds playing with pop and cover bands throughout the West Coast. Drawing from that experience, their current repertoire of original compositions is a cross between progressive and syncopated rock, funk and pop.

QUOTE ME: "The arts are about creativity, growth and experimentation. In this realm, Boscoe's Brood, for us, is the perfect musical venue for which to help bring that about in a manner that challenges our skills. Plus, it's fun." — Sam Regalado

NEW MUSIC: The duo plans to record a live show soon and make it available to the public.

NEXT GIG: Show at 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Copper Rhino with Ode to Anthony and 9:45 p.m. Aug. 8 at Banana Joe's, both in Modesto. Other dates Aug. 22, 7 p.m., at the Queen Bean in Modesto and Aug. 23 at The Partisan in Merced.
