LOS ANGELES -- Authorities say a freight train derailment that delayed several morning commuter trains in Los Angeles has been cleared and there were no injuries or hazardous spills.
Metrolink spokesman Francisco Oaxaca (Wah-HAH'-kuh) says three empty Union Pacific cars went off the tracks at around 1:45 a.m. Monday about 2 1/2 miles from downtown's Union Station.
He says the accident damaged the signal system and the cars blocked two main lines for six hours. Three Metrolink morning trains were delayed for about a half-hour each and some passengers had to be bused around the blockage.
The lines reopened at 7:45 a.m.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
