Modesto Junior College men's soccer team will have to be satisfied with simply making it to the Northern California playoffs this year.

That's because the Pirates lost in the second round Tuesday, 4-0, to visiting Santa Rosa.

Last year the Pirates didn't get this far, missing the playoffs entire.

Under first-year MJC coach Joe Michelena, the fourth-ranked Modesto team (11-5-6) beat Yuba College 1-0 in first round of the 14-team playoff bracket. The No. 5 Bearcubs (13-2-5) led 2-0 at halftime and added goals five minutes apart late in the game to seal the victory.

Modesto goalkeeper Edgar Martinez recorded five saves.
