Ripon Christian, Ripon High hit the road for volleyball playoffs

Ripon Christian High may have just won its third consecutive Sac-Joaquin Section Division 5 volleyball championship, but that didn't hold any sway when the state CIF seeded the NorCal playoffs.

RC is hosting a first-round match Tuesday, but is playing powerful Castilleja of Palo Alto.

Castilleja is seeded No. 4 in the eight-team bracket, while RC is No. 5.

Also Tuesday, D4 Ripon goes on the road to face West Valley of Cottonwood -- just above Red Bluff. It's 215 miles, but fortunately most of that mileage is driven on I-5.

Regardless, it's about a four-hour bus trip for the Indians.

Ripon is seeded No. 3 -- Christian Brothers, which beat Ripon in the section final -- but travels because section runners-up can't host openers.
