Ceres' Harden reaches D-2 final

ROSEVILLE — Ceres High senior McKenzy Harden defeated Ponderosa's Chilean foreign exchange student Francisca Rojas 6-1, 6-2 and Yuba City's Hannah Poukish 6-4, 6-2 Thursday during the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 2 Singles Championships at the Johnson Ranch Racquet Club.

Harden, who has advanced to the semifinals for the first time, will meet defending section champion and No. 1 seed Karolina Kecki of Granite Bay today at noon.

Volleyball

SONORA 3, UNION MINE 2 — Hannah Blume totaled 24 kills as the Wildcats rallied from behind to reach the Division 3 semifinals by defeating Union Mine 27-29, 25-23, 25-10, 21-25, 15-10.

ATWATER 3, GRANITE BAY 1 — Jacklyn Frank had 13 kills and teammate Nicole Heller totaled 12 kills for the Falcons (17-0), who advanced to the Division 2 semifinals.

Atwater improved will next face No. 2 seed St. Francis, which defeated No. 7 Roseville 3-2.

RIPON 3, ORESTIMBA 0 — Ashley Robinson's 12 kills propelled the Indians (37-9) past Orestimba and into the Division 4 semifinals.

ESCALON 3, GOLDEN SIERRA 1 — The fourth-seeded Cougars, paced by 19 kills by Kaitlyn Brayton and 33 assists by Katie Aprile, needed four games to stop Golden Sierra and qualify for the Division 4 semifinals.
