If you're a high school football fanatic, or merely a fan, here are six games that will provide plenty of bang for your buck:
No. 4 Small HILMAR (6-0, 1-0) at No. 1 Small CENTRAL CATHOLIC (5-1, 1-0) — It's been nearly a year since Hilmar stunned Central for the Sac-Joaquin Section Division 5 title. It was the first time in 100 games Central lost to a public school. Strong defenses, but Raiders hold big edge in passing game with QB Dylan Swartz (1,115 yards, 12 TDs, 0 INTs) and C.J. Carson (28 catches, 16-yard average, 6 TDs). Hilmar QB Quinton McCown has struggled, but needs to bring his best game for 'Jackets to pull upset.
No. 6 Large DAVIS (4-2, 1-0) vs. No. 7 MODESTO (3-3, 1-0) at Downey — This one could decide the MMC crown. It's only two games into the conference, but these two are the top teams. Modesto's balance features WR Andre Barry (22 catches, 23-yard average, 7 TDs) and RBs James Ingram and Arquel Rogers (combined 1,119 yards, 12 TD), but Spartans have the MMC's best defense. Davis has stable of RBs to grind out yards, and that depth keeps them fresh at the finish.
No. 2 Large SIERRA (6-0, 3-0) at No. 5 Large SONORA (5-1, 2-1) — Each team has an RB closing in on 1,000 yards (Sonora's Dan Link at 926 yards, Sierra's Jarrod Daniels at 911 yards), but this one is going to be decided by the defense. Sierra's aggressive LBs will focus on Link, a troubling prospect for a Sonora squad that has yet to effectively produce a passing attack.
No. 3 Large PITMAN (4-2, 2-0) at ATWATER (4-2, 1-1) — No one is playing better than the Pride, whose losses came to teams that are a combined 11-2. Stopping two-headed running duo of Markus Sanders and Dominick Walker is a tough task for Atwater, which was unable to slow Buhach's running attack two weeks ago. Atwater QB Nathan Sanchez needs to be at his best for Falcons to capture this one.
No. 3 Small MODESTO CHR. (6-0, 1-0) at No. 6 Small RIPON (5-1, 1-0) — Ripon is in top tier of TVL, with MC and Escalon, but is it good enough crack the top two? MC is averaging 52 points a game, and has endless playmakers in Isaiah Burse, David Sjelin, Raymond Nelson ... and the list goes on. Ripon hopes RB Nick Curtice and the offense can control the clock, keeping Burse and the offense stuck on the sidelines.
No. 7 SUMMERVILLE (5-1, 1-0) at No. 5 Small ARGONAUT (4-2, 1-0) — Nice matchup of opposites: Summerville QB Zach Roberson (1,456 yards, 18 TDs, 2 INTs) and his receiving crew vs. Argonaut RB Danny Welch (814 yards, 11-yard average, 13 TDs) and the foothills' top running game. Doesn't get any easier for the winner here, because the MLL is loaded with teams capable of knocking each other off the final three weeks of the season.
