STOCKHOLM — Top-seeded Robin Soderling breezed past Giovanni Lapentti of Ecuador 6-3, 6-0 Wednesday in the first round at the Stockholm Open.

The Swede broke Lapentti's serve to lead 3-1 in the opening set before a capacity crowd at the Royal Tennis Hall.

Soderling broke Lapentti again at the start of the second set and was never challenged the rest of the way.

"The first match is always the most difficult in a tournament," Soderling said. "But I think I played better and better the longer the match lasted." ...

Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia and third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland were upset in the first round of the Kremlin Cup.
