LINDEN -- The wins keep coming for Escalon High and coach Mark Loureiro.
Steve Silva ran wild for Escalon as the Cougars remained perfect with a smashing 47-26 victory over Linden and handed Loureiro his 206th coaching victory -- the most of any coach in the Stanislaus district.
"We put that to rest," Loureiro said after the game.
Silva, on the other hand, didn't need any rest. He carried the ball 18 times and rolled up 196 yards and scored four touchdowns (three rushing, one on a pass recetpion) in a game that was essentially over by halftime. By then, Escalon had a 34-20 lead.
Linden scored first when Jeremy Powers ran 38 yards for a touchdown.
Moments later, Escalon quarterback Spencer Franceschetti found Nick Largent, who turned on the jets and ran 42 yards for a score. Lidnen then tied it up on a 1-yard run by Aaron Alvarez.
But Escalon answered when Franceschetti found Silva on a 5-yard pass into the end zone and then Josh Miguel galloped 19 yards for another score.
In the second quarter, Silva opened the scoring with a 50-yard run. Later, Jason Diniz -- who normally gets more accolades for his kicking -- ran 37 yards for a touchdown. Silva scored the last TD for Escalon on a 1-yard run.
In all, the Cougars (4-0) had 377 yards rushing and another 89 through the air for 466 yards total offense.
For the Lions (2-2), Powers had two touchdowns and Aaron Alvarez threw for one TD and ran for another.
SIERRA 46, EAST UNION 12, at Manteca -- Jarrod Daniels rushed for 138 yards and four touchdowns, and Sierra scored its 23 first-quarter points in a seven-minute span. Daniels scored on runs of 5, 7, 40 and 33 yards.
