The City Tournament is open to adult men, women or mixed teams. Men's and mixed teams need five members, women's teams need four. Besides team events, there is also doubles, singles and all-events categories. The team event will be at Yosemite Lanes, with doubles and singles at McHenry. Turnament weekends are Nov. 14-15 and 21-22.

The second event is the Modesto USBC Senior No-Tap Doubles Tournament. It is open to members of Modesto USBC 55 or older. McHenry Bowl will be hosting the tournament the two Fridays prior to the City Tournament weekends, Nov. 13 and 20 at 1 p.m. Doubles teams can be two men, two women or one of each, but there will be only one prize list. Scoring will be in nine pin no-tap, meaning a single pin left up counts as a strike.

Third up is the Modesto USBC Youth Tournament. The youth event runs concurrently with the Modesto City Tournament Team event at Yosemibe Bowl. Any youth bowling in a league in Modesto is eligible. The singles-only event will feature three divisions, two by age and a Scratch Open. Scholarships will be awarded to the top finishers.

The State Theatre in Modesto is having a special showing of "The Big Lebowski" on Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 at the State Theatre ticket window or online on (thestate.org). Discount tickets are available at McHenry Bowl, with the ticket stub good for one free wristband at the bowl's Sunday Nite Live event after the movie. The 1998 film's following has fueled a wave of Lebowskifests across the country.

It must have been nice for Wayne Garber, after being on the road competing in the PBA East Coast swing, to be back home. He took advantage of familiar surroundings to win the Willie Taylor Memorial 6-Gamer at Yosemite this past weekend. Milo Coronado qualified first at a plus-255, with Garber taking the third seed at a plus-197. Garber worked his way through the stepladder finals to meet Coronado in the final match, earning $600 and earn a spot in the year-end Tournament of Champions.

Jean Bertolosso broke the no-tap 900 barrier to win the women's side of the Friday No-Tap Tournament at McHenry. Bertolosso scored a 902 handicap set for the top spot. Janet Spooner was next with an 838, followed by Alice Christensen (834).

On the men's side, Bill Bender topped the list with his 883 score. Manuel Frade ended in second after scoring 858. Dennis McKinney took the third spot with his 856 score.

This Friday, a "55 and Older" No-Tap is rolling at Yosemite. The singles event starts competition at 1 p.m., with check-in at 12:30.

The fall league session is just getting under way with spots still open for adults, seniors and kids. Call Pam or Dave at McHenry, 571-2695, or Wayne at Yosemite, 524-9161.
