Jay Glover was voted in as the 2009-11 president of the Modesto USBC Association at the annual open meeting. Also elected were Tim Miller, for the two-year vice president position, and Ed Blomdahl in the same position for the one-year term.

Elected to the director positions were Scott Bartlow, Jim Gordin, Bill Heyden, Anita Riley, Pam Marksman, Bruce Webb and Claudelle Bonaccinie. June Brown, Karen Brown and Janessa Nix were elected as youth directors. Installation of the new board will be Aug. 29 at the Elks Club.

The 2008-09 "Bowler of the Year" qualifiers have been announced by the Modesto USBC and the roll-off is scheduled for Aug. 9. Ninety-six of the top average or most improved bowlers for the season have been divided into four divisions — Scratch, Handicap, Senior and Youth.

In the Scratch Division, the four high averages for men and women from each bowling center will go head-to-head. The men representing Yosemite will be Bill Hamilton, Wayne Garber, Jason Dewar and Nick Kelley. The four from McHenry are Raymond Coronado, Freddy Irvin, Don McKinney and Jay Glover.

Bonnie Garber, Carol Serpa, Randi Blomdahl and Stephany Perry from Yosemite will join Dionne Williams, Rose Brown, Mary Figures and Tara Riddle from McHenry to make up the field for the Scratch Women.

The Handicap Division is based on the most improved averages for bowlers in four different average categories. The men's "190 and above" qualifiers are John Sherrard, Willie Higle, Ricci Gotelli and Dean Houck.

In the "170-189 average" qualifiers David Eckhardt, Jason Tavares, Ryan Dunscomb and Eric Johnson will compete. From the "150-169 averages" Jonathan Sciabica, Albert Pittman, Tim Paulacky and Terry Croasdale made the list. Jerry Gonzales, Howard Draper, Dio Buffington and Frank Schillac will represent the "below 149 averages."

The women in the "180 and above averages" list Kristine Kropf, Teddie Mello, Dallas Kadry and Sue Rupe as earning spots.

The "160-179 averages" are Rhonda Bacich, Virginia Higle, Tassie Parkay and Marty Nard. In the "140-159 averages" Alana Briley, Cassie Wright, Patti Garcia and Susy Dekak made the field. Diane Medina, Tara Sorrell, Liz Able and Crystal Walker qualified in the "139 and below averages."

Senior men qualifying for the roll-off are Bob Neuerburg, Ray Gamble, Alan White and Fritz Klatt for "high average." Bill Simpson, Alan Fontes, Joseph McNeely and Lonnie Miller qualified for the "most improved" award.

Senior women qualifying for "high average" are Sharon Zimmerman, Ginger Chrowl, Gloria Chin and Charlotte Scott. Linda York, Mary Campbell, Jean Anderson and Shirley Laurenz made the list in the "most improved averages."

Thirty-two youth bowlers will be joining the 64 adults in the competition. Youth categories are separated by age. The Bantam boys qualified are Jonathan Warda, Javonte Allen, Derrick Munson and Gabriel Villasenor. Girls include Alecia Grenig, Sara Russell, Emily Heathman and Samira Smith.

In the Prep boys, Jonathan Humphreys, Seth Harris, Marcos Garcia and Josh Tambagan will join the Prep girls Ashley Wolff, Haley Wolff, Jacklyn Davidson and Kirin Huntley. The Junior boys field will include Will Garber, Josh McKormick, Nathan Fiske and Kyle Simi. The girls are Megan Hunter, Tori Young, Janessa Nix and Emily Perry.

Major/Seniors Trevor Moore, Wesley Schwieger, Christopher Davidson and Phillip Graham qualified for the boys, with Natalie Hunter, Christine Sanford, Joey Smith and Rebecca Johnson making the list for the girls.

The roll-off will start at Yosemite Lanes at 10 a.m. for three games, and then move to McHenry Bowl to finish the last three games and the awards presentation.

The Scratch Divisions bowl scratch and all others will be handicapped. If you have qualified and not reserved your spot, or cannot bowl, call Pam Marksman at 571-2695.

On Friday, the Senior Fun Day No-Tap is set to roll at 1 p.m. at McHenry Bowl. Check-in starts at 12:30.
