Medlen events coming up as NHRA descends on Infineon

Oakdale's Eric Medlen will be remembered with two events connected to the 22nd Fram Autolite NHRA Nationals next week.

The track will host the third Eric Medlen Nitro Night Charity Dinner on July 23 at the Fior d'Italia restaurant in San Francisco.

Medlen, who was killed while testing a Funny Car in 2007, attended the inaugural fund-raising event in 2006. NHRA drivers Ashley Force Hood, Morgan Lucas and Jack Beckman will attend.

On July 26, the track will host the third Eric Medlen Ice Cream Social following the final eliminations.

Medlen was born and raised in Oakdale and was known to love ice cream. Every fan will get a free scoop of Dreyer's ice cream.

All proceeds benefit the Speedway Children's Charities. Medlen drove for John Force Racing and considered Infineon his home track; he won the Funny Car title there in 2006. The NHRA Nationals are July 24-26.
