BAKERSFIELD — The Modesto Nuts are coming home on a five-game losing streak. Mauro Gomez hit two home runs Thursday night to lead the Bakersfield Blaze to a 6-4 over the Nuts.

Modesto started the game off well, striking for a run in the first when Jason Van Kooten singled and came around to score on a double to right by Jay Cox. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Blaze took a 2-1 lead on Gomez's 14th homer of the season.

After Bakersfield added two more in the second, Modesto cut the deficit to 4-3 when Cox blasted a two-run shot to center. But any momentum the Nuts gained was halted in the bottom of the third when Gomez hit his second homer of the game.

Modesto opens a four-game series against High Desert tonight at 7:05 at John Thurman Field.
