SAN JOSE -- The San Jose Giants scored seven runs in the sixth inning to blow open a close game and cruised to an 11-1 California League victory over the Modesto Nuts on Sunday night.
After allowing San Jose to take a 2-0 lead on two unearned runs, Modesto pulled to within 2-1 on Charles Blackmon's solo home run in the top of the third inning.
Nuts starter Ethan Hollingsworth (0-2) was solid until the sixth, when things went downhill.
After Hollingsworth gave up a walk and a single, he was relieved by Ching Lung Lo, who walked the bases loaded and then walked in a run. San Jose's Skyler Stromsmoe then tripled and the rout was on. Lo failed to get an out, allowing a hit, three walks and four earned runs.
The two teams play again tonight at 7 p.m. at Municipal Stadium.
