Charlie Blaney, a longtime fixture in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization, will succeed Joe Gagliardi next season as California League commissioner.
Joe Gagliardi, the commissioner since 1981 and a fixture in the league for 25 years, will retire at the end of the season. He owned the Modesto Reds from 1966-68.
To honor Gagliardi's service, the league will name its championship trophy after him.
Blaney, who was given a three-year contract, worked for 32 years as an executive with the Dodgers, finishing in 1998 as vice president of minor league operations.
In recent years, Blaney prepared schedules for minor leagues throughout the country.
