LAKE ELSINORE — Lancaster outfielder Jonathan Gaston struck out three times in the all-star game between the Carolina and California leagues Tuesday.

He came up big in the bottom of the 10th, hitting a home run to center field that gave California a 2-1 victory.

Modesto Nuts relief pitcher Craig Baker struck out two in the ninth to shut down Carolina. He was the Nuts' lone representative.

California struck first in the first inning when San Jose catcher Buster Posey hit a two-out single to score High Desert first baseman Joseph Dunigan.

Carolina tied the game in the top of the eighth when Pedro Florimon Jr. tripled and scored on an error.

Seven Carolina pitchers combined to strike out 11; nine California pitchers fanned 14.
