METAIRIE, La. — The way New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees sees it, "experience" is "something you gain when you don't get what you want."

The Saints haven't been to the playoffs in two seasons. Brees saw a connection between those disappointments and the large number of Saints who voluntarily attended workouts this offseason.

"You can say the last two years we've not gotten exactly what we set out to get," Brees said. "I feel like we've learned a lot along the way. I feel we've assembled a great group of veteran free-agent guys who have been a part of good teams and know what it takes to win and be professional and fight through adversity. ... We're much better prepared for the journey this year than we ever have been."

Ideally, said coach Sean Payton, each player should take part in 40 offseason workouts. The coach said about 90 percent of the roster hit that mark, which is "clearly the highest that we've had since we've been here."

The Saints had their final offseason practice Thursday and left this weekend for a nearly six-week break until reporting day on July 31.

BRADYS EXPECTING? — Is she or isn't she? People.com is reporting Gisele Bundchen is pregnant. Citing anonymous sources, the report says Tom Brady's wife is due early next year. Brady has a son, Jack, with actress Bridget Moynahan. Late last month, the Patriots quarterback said Bundchen was not pregnant. "One is enough," Brady said on May 28. "I have dogs, and that's all I need."

KOSAR BANKRUPT — Former NFL quarterback Bernie Kosar has filed for bankruptcy protection in Miami. His Chapter 11 filing lists assets between $1 million and $10 million and liabilities of from $10 million to $50 million. Kosar owes his ex-wife Babette $3 million.

LEAF SURRENDERS — Former QB Ryan Leaf surrendered to Texas authorities to face burglary and drug-related charges on Friday. The former No. 2 draft pick from Washington State was indicted in May. Leaf was drafted by San Diego in 1998 and released after three disastrous seasons. Leaf had 14 TDs and 36 interceptions in a four-year NFL career marred by outbursts.
