STOCKTON One night after stranding eight runners in scoring position, the Modesto Nuts made up for their recent offensive woes with a needed outburst.
The Nuts beat the Stockton Ports 11-3 to snap a four-game losing streak. The Nuts picked up a game in the California League North Division, now 2½ games behind leader Visalia.
The Rawhide were shut out by host San Jose 7-0. The Giants are one game ahead of the Nuts.
Modesto tallied 13 hits, including three each from Charles Blackmon and Jason Van Kooten.
Van Kooten hit two home runs to left and finished with four RBI. Blackmon drove in three runs on three singles and scored once.
Jay Cox Jr. hit a solo homer in the top of the third.
Their effort backed a solid outing by Cory Riordan (3-5, 4.52 ERA), who struck out seven in 7 1/3 innings and gave up just four hits.
