Modesto's three-time Olympian Suzy Powell (pictured) is slated to compete against Galt's Stephanie Brown Trafton — the reigning Olympic discus champion — at the Pacific Association USA Track and Field Championships/Grand Prix competition Sunday at College of San Mateo.

Powell, the American record holder in the discus (222 feet), defeated Trafton in the rain last month at the Drake Relays.

Brown's stunning victory at Beijing provided the United States its only gold medal by a man or woman in a field event. It was also the nation's first gold medal in the women's discus since 1932.

Brown's best throw this year is 202-6, better than Powell's 195-9, as both prepare for the nationals next month in Eugene, Ore.
