OAKLAND -- Interim head coach Tom Cable made it clear he wants the Oakland Raiders to be more balanced on offense now that he's in charge. The return of starting running back Justin Fargas back should help.
Fargas sat out Oakland's previous two games with a groin strain and the production of the Raiders' running game fell off considerably in his absence. The passing game also took a hit because Fargas is the team's best pass blocker in the backfield.
The Raiders head into Sunday's game at New Orleans ranked third in rushing and 29th in passing.
"I think it's really important because he is the consistent runner in our system," Cable said Thursday. "He's proven that obviously with the year he had last year. He was off to a good start (this year) until the injury. I think that gets their attention right away, which only adds to the passing game."
Fargas, who rushed for career-high 1,009 yards in 2007, was off to a better start this year and was averaging 5.2 yards a carry when he strained his groin going out for a pass during a Week 2 win over Kansas City.
