The Gold Strike team is the unofficial champion of the 2008 Grand Prix at McHenry Bowl.

The team came out of the Gamblers League and posted the high score of 2,581. Team captain Ed Suchman and teammates Dave Stepanovich, Traci Mussatt and John Olivan will take home $1,000 if their score holds.

Olivan boosted the team total with his 686 set, and Suchman added a 640 to the mix.

Scratch Trio No. 12 is in second at a 2,574 total. Team captain Chris Kraft paced the team with his 247-258-237 series of 742. Eugene Woodfy helped with his 675 set. Filling out the team lineup is Esther Kraft and Craig Ronyock.

Dan Schaal's ESSCO team from the Scratch Trio is in third with a 2,564 series. Schaal led with his 258-246-235 set of 739, and daughter Pam contributed a 666. Second daughter Kim and Jared Marsh rounded out the team. Averages must be verified before the list is made official and prize checks can be released.

SUNDAY IS THE Everyone Loves Raymond Fun Day at McHenry. Squad times are noon or 2 p.m. with a barbecue lunch being served from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. This is a fun day to come out and support 20-year-old Raymond Waring in his fight against bone cancer. Raymond was a top youth bowler in the area and moved into the adult ranks last year. He's a past employee of the bowl and his mom, Terry, is the Senior Director. Bowlers and non-bowlers alike are welcome. No prize fund, no averages needed, only a day to join together to support Raymond and his family. Cost is $25, including bowling, lunch and a T-shirt. Call to sign up or reserve your spot at 571-2695. Entries will be taken at the event as space allows.

Marty Nard scored a 948 set for a decisive win on the women's side of the Friday No-Tap at McHenry. Gin Quinton finished second with an 882, followed by Margaret Taddei in third with 876. Rolling a 930 score, Jim Cronkite topped the men's list. Don Rodrigues finished second at 907. Finishing third was Chris Parreira at 883.

TICKETS ARE OUT for the Modesto USBC Annual Awards and Installation Dinner. The event is Sept. 27 at the Red Lion Hotel. Social hour starts at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7. The installation and awards program follow dinner. Tickets are available at both bowling centers and from any association member. Hall-of-Fame inductee Wayne Garber and Pioneer Award winner Al Walter will be presented with their awards. Scholarship presentation will be given to winners Kyle Courtroul and Brittany Marckese. Bowler of the Year winners Bill Hamilton, Randi Blomdahl, Gene Rojas, Bob Neuerburg and Seth Harris will be recognized. Also recognized will be state BVL champion Virginia Higle of Ceres.

• Entries are open for the 2008 Youth State Scratch Tournament, and forms are available from the youth directors at the bowls. The tournament runs the weekend of Oct. 4-5 at Visalia Lanes. Qualifying will consist of two six-game blocks Saturday starting at 9 a.m.
