SAN JOSE -- Although Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson headed to the NHL draft with none of the first 116 picks, such an obstacle couldn't keep San Jose's dynamic dealer from having another intriguing weekend.

With another flurry of draft-day activity Saturday in Ottawa, Wilson extended his lengthy tradition of aggressively trading up to snag the players he wants. The Sharks moved up three times to draft seven players, including twins Justin and Drew Daniels.

"It's very difficult to come from the 100s and try and get back into the places we wanted," said Tim Burke, the Sharks' director of amateur scouting. "I give Doug the credit for that."

Wilson began the day without a pick before the end of the fourth round, but he moved that choice and two more to get Tampa Bay's 62nd selection, the first pick of the third round.

The Sharks chose Justin Daniels, a high school center in Connecticut last season -- and later picked up Drew, his slightly smaller twin, in the seventh round. The Daniels brothers were among the highest-rated prep-school players by the Central Scouting Service after they scored 47 points apiece in 25 games last season.

The Sharks traded two future picks to Los Angeles for the 92nd pick, defenseman Samuel Groulx, who played under coach Patrick Roy with the Quebec Remparts in juniors. Later in the fourth round, the Sharks moved two more picks to grab the 106th selection from Nashville. They used it on Finnish goalie Harri Sateri.

San Jose selected Julien Demers in the fifth round and Jason Demers in the seventh. The major-junior defensemen aren't related. The Sharks also picked up Miami of Ohio center Tommy Wingles in the sixth round.
