PATTERSON -- At the WAC-TVL Challenge, Riverbank's German Fernandez on Thursday ran the 3,200 meters in 8 minutes 53.6 seconds, which coach Bruce Edwards said is the fastest time in the country this season.

"He did that after doing the other two events (800 and 1,600)," said Edwards, noting Fernandez won the 1,600 in 4:21.18. "That would beat the state meet time from last year by 9.01 seconds."

He provided one of the highlights at the meet, which pits the best athletes from the two conferences.

Patterson's Amber Bond provided the speed, winning the 100 meters (12.93) and 200 (26.81), and running a leg on the 400 relay team that won in 53.83, while Escalon's Cynthia Lopez held off teammate Annelyse Delucchi to win the 800 in 2:38.81 -- a 2-second margin of victory.

Ripon's Sarah Stranger dominated the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 2 inches, a foot ahead of runner-up Jaquie Kinimaka of Orestimba, while Hilmar's Natalie Grubb escaped with a win in the triple jump, going 29-7 to beat Riverbank's Tora Robertson by three inches.

Riverbank's Jennifer Manriquez nearly got a double-win in the weight events, winning the discus at 92-2, but her shot put of 30-6 was three inches behind Central Catholic's Brook Reno.

Patterson's boys won the short sprints behind Josh Hamm (100 in 11.24) and Robby Samano (200 in 22.62), and the Tigers won the 400 relay in 44.37 -- with Hamm and Samano both running legs.

Samano added a long jump victory, going 19-8 to cap his memorable day -- finishing a quarter-inch in front of teammate Ronyea Ellington.

Livingston's Raul Millan was the king of the weights, winning the shot put at 47-6 and the discus at 137-7.
