MATT AIROLA Bret Harte sophomore
Provided a glimpse of his potential by finishing second in the section Division IV race behind Runner of the Year German Fernandez. Airola was sixth, and the top sophomore, in the Division IV race at the State Meet.
MATT MALDONADO Modesto senior
The 6-footer, after overcoming early-season injuries, used his long stride to capture the MMC championship. Maldonado also earned a berth in the State Meet, where he finished 56th in the Division I race.
MARTY PYEATT Modesto senior
A strong runner who was at his best on hills and rough courses, according to coach Brian Heese, Pyeatt finished fourth in the section Division I race and 39th at the State Meet. He was second to Maldonado in the MMC.
ANDREW RAY Buhach Colony senior
Ray was unchallenged in CCC dual meets and ran away with the title at the conference meet, before making a second consecutive trip to the State Meet. He was seventh in the section Division II race.
JUAN SEGUNDO Livingston junior
He did his best running at the end of the season, finishing sixth in the section Division III race in 17:22 before going to the State Meet and placing 51st with a time of 16:40 over the 3.1-mile course in Fresno.
VICTOR VIEYRA Davis senior
He was third in the MMC finals, leading Davis past Modesto for the team crown, covering the 3.1-mile course in 16:05. Vieyra also helped the Spartans to a crucial conference dual meet win over rival Modesto.
