Lenn Sakata, dismissed as Modesto Nuts manager by the Colorado Rockies in early July 2013, will return to the dugout in April as manager of the San Jose Giants, it was announced Wednesday.

Sakata, 59, is the winningest manager in California League history with 684 wins over eight full seasons and parts of two others.

He also holds the league records for championships won (3), playoff appearances (8) playoff series won (8) and playoff games won (33).

The Rockies have yet to announce their minor-league field staffs for the 2014 season, although it’s unlikely that Fred Nelson, who took over the Nuts after Sakata’s firing, will return as Modesto manager.
