The Modesto Nuts sure wanted to beat Lancaster on Monday night.
The Nuts won 12-7, thanks to scoring six runs in the ninth inning. Modesto had closed the gap with three runs in the eighth. Will Swanner hit a two-run homer in the eighth inning to pull Modesto within a run.
In the ninth, Trevor Story hit a two-run double to put Modesto up 9-7. But the Nuts added a few runs for insurance. Taylor Featherston followed with a two-run single and Swanner hit a two-run double for the final tally.
Featherston and Jared Simon each had three hits in the game. David Kandilas stole his 16th base of the season and scored twice.
Ben Alsup started for Modesto, giving up seven runs on 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. Bruce Kern picked up the win, tossing one inning - the eighth - after facing just three batters. He forced a fly out and two groundouts.
