BAKERSFIELD — The Modesto Nuts went into a funk in the bottom of the eighth Saturday after centerfielder Charles Blackmon was ejected, and lost 4-1 to Bakersfield.
As the Nuts took the field, Blackmon was tossed by first-base umpire Tim Eastman. The Nuts got the next two batters out, but Joey Butler singled and went to third on a double by Ian Gac. Up next was Michael Bianucci, who had broken a 1-1 tie with a run in the seventh. He struck out swinging. But instead of heading to the dugout, Bianucci took off for first, drawing a wild throw. Bianucci was safe. Sean Jarrett's next pitch was wild and both Butler and Gac scored. Erik Morrison popped out for the fourth out.
Bakersfield and Modesto are tied for third in the North Division of the California League.
