SAN JOSE -- The host San Jose Giants piled on for a 9-3 victory over the Modesto Nuts on Monday.
San Jose scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth, helped a bit by two Modesto errors, to give itself a cushion in the teams' California League game.
Modesto got nine hits, but left 12 men on base. The Nuts also struck out 11 times, including eight against Giants' starter Craig Clark (8-2, 3.12).
Jason Van Kooten hit a two-run double in the third. He was stranded twice at third base. Nuts' pitcher Kenneth Durst took the loss (2-8, 5.28).
