VISALIA -- It took three games and some serious heroics Saturday night, but the Modesto Nuts are on the board in the California League's second half.
Wilin Rosario's two-out single to right in the ninth inning chased home Matt Repec for the go-ahead run, the difference in the Nuts' 7-6 win over the Visalia Rawhide.
Reliever Craig Baker (2-1) got the win the hard way, striking out three after Visalia loaded the bases in the eighth. Matthew Reynolds closed in the ninth for his third save.
A crowd of 1,412 at Recreation Park was treated to a wild game on a steamy night that began with the temperature at 99 degrees.
Modesto lost the first two games at Visalia and was in danger of a sweep after the Rawhide chased starter Cory Riordan with a six-run fifth. The Nuts trailed 6-4 until drawing even in the eighth when Rosario, after an RBI single, came home on a wild pitch.
The winning rally in the ninth was begun by Repec's two-out double. Modesto returns to Thurman Field tonight to face San Jose.
